The girls at Allendale are geared up to learn, explore and have fun! Along with Techbridge teachers, Nancy Lee and Janet Jackson, this year’s Techbridge girls are learning how to take care of our planet, and finding out what they can do to make it a better place. As the program got started, the girls learned about wetlands and how important they are to the environment. Next the girls put on their chemical engineering hats and experimented, making natural paint. Using pigments from spinach, oranges, and grape juice the girls designed what they imagined would be the perfect paint. The girls are starting the Green Design unit, where they get to design, construct and certify their own green room. In the process, they will come to understand what makes construction materials “green” and what they can do at home to save water and energy. It’s been an exciting year, and it’s only going to get better!
