Techbridge is so popular at Montera Middle School that two programs are needed to support all the girls. The girls started out this year with a boat design challenge. In pairs, the students designed a boat out of random materials including foam plates and cups, rubber bands, straws, tape, glue, string, aluminum foil, and foam board. The students brainstormed and sketched designs of boats that had to float across a kiddie pool, hold different amount of weights, and withstand a “storm.” At test time the girls gathered around the pool to see how well their designs worked and cheered for one another.
After floating the boats, the girls will be busy with other projects including being challenged to become junior investigators in a crime scene investigation, create green model homes, and learn about computer science. With the help of teachers, Stephanie Berger, Natalie Mann, Lindsay Deane, and Alina Mankin, this year is sure to be a success!
