Techbridge Receives Assemblymember Nancy Skinner’s 2013 Women In STEM Award
Oakland, California - Techbridge, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring girls in science, technology and engineering, was presented with the 2013 Women in STEM Award by California Assemblymember Nancy Skinner. The Award celebrates “women trailblazers who have made significant contributions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). This year’s honorees recognize women and organizations that have made groundbreaking contributions in STEM fields and have helped advance, involve or educate women and girls in STEM,” in the statement from Assemblymember Skinner’s Office.
On June 27, 2013, Assemblymember Nancy Skinner recognized the recipients of the 15th Assembly District Women of the Year Awards at the Hilton Garden Inn in Emeryville. Dr. Linda Kekelis, Executive Director of Techbridge, received the award on behalf of Techbridge. Dr. Kekelis shared, “Techbridge was honored to be one of three organizations recognized along with 13 women who received this year’s award. Each honoree is seeking to empower girls and women in STEM and collectively we can make a significant difference to help change the world.” The mission of Techbridge is to empower girls in science, technology and engineering by providing innovative programs that offer hands-on activities and career exploration through role models and field trips. Since 2000, Techbridge has sought to improve the imbalance of women and minorities in STEM fields through its after-school and summer programming, family outreach, partnerships and professional development.
Techbridge is a non-profit organization that empowers girls to realize their dreams in science, technology and engineering. Since 2000, Techbridge has served over 4,000 girls in grades 5-12 through its after-school and summer programs, and reached thousands more girls through partnerships with Girl Scout councils nationwide. Additionally, Techbridge offers trainings and resources to families, role models, teachers and school districts to share best practices and guidance for inspiring girls in STEM.
