Phyllis Harvey-Buschel, Ed. D.

PhyllisPhyllis works with the University of Washington-Mathematics Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) as director of Curriculum and Instructional Support for K-12 program. Her work includes the development, design, dissemination and, implementation of Teacher Professional Learning (TPL) in Technology and Project-Based Learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Her work also involves the statewide organization and execution of the annual MESA K-12 Engineering Design Challenge.

She is a former plant science researcher in ornamental horticulture and post-harvest in sub-tropical fruits. Her background and experience in education includes 14 years as classroom science teachers in urban middle and high schools, content expert in science and curriculum development and author of technology in public schools book, STEM curriculum guides and teacher professional learning academies. Phyllis received her Ed. D. in Education Leadership from Bowie State University in Maryland, and holds master’s degrees in teaching from Trinity University, curriculum and instruction from George Mason University, and plant biology from the University of the West Indies. Her primary education and outreach goals are to get students excited and involved in STEM through Project-Based Learning.
