Chevron Volunteers Help Techbridge Inspire Families

For over seven years, Chevron has been a committed partner and sponsor of Techbridge. One very important part of our programming is our engagement with parents and families. In order to inspire girls to change the world, Techbridge provides workshops, resources and Family Nights to help parents support their daughters as they pursue their dreams. Over the years, Chevron’s funding and support has been instrumental in helping us bring activities to families that inspire girls in science, engineering and technology.

This year, as part of Chevron Volunteer Week, we asked a group of Chevron executives for some critical feedback on a brand new family activity: The LED Wind Chime. This activity is well suited for families because it uses materials that you can easily find around the home. Our volunteers had fun tinkering with the project. Then, they gave us some thoughtful feedback on our printed instructions, and gave us a few helpful ideas for how to improve the activity.

The following week, another group of volunteers from Chevron came to Techbridge Headquarters in Oakland to help us prepare for Discovery Days at the Bay Area Science Festival. Our Chevron volunteers helped us prepare materials for our Jitter Bot activity.

Chevron volunteers were on the scene again at the Festival, helping us facilitate the Jitter Bot activity for hundreds of kids and families. One parent said, “This is the best activity I’ve seen here today! We’re using a cup and a pizza box protector, just ordinary materials, and the kids are getting to be real engineers. Everyone walks away with their own creation – this is fantastic!”

Parents play a vital  role in supporting their daughters’ interest in science. That’s why we’re thankful to Chevron for helping us produce the Techbridge Family Guides in three languages! Our Family Guides include fun science activities to try at home as well as resources to support parents and kids. Download them for free on our website, and help inspire a girl to change the world.
