Soroptimists Honor Techbridge Leaders with "Ruby Award"

Techbridge CEO Linda Kekelis and Role Model Lyn Gomes were recently honored for their work by the East Bay chapter of Soroptimist International, a worldwide volunteer organization devoted to improving the lives of women and girls.  The Soroptimist 24-680 chose Linda and Lyn to receive the Soroptimists’ Ruby Award for Women Helping Women, a distinction given to “women who work to improve conditions for women and girls through their personal or volunteer efforts.”  Lyn Gomes, who also serves on Techbridge’s Bay Area Advisory Council, was instrumental in securing the nomination.

Lisa Schreiber from Soroptimist 24-680 praised Techbridge and Lyn for their above and beyond efforts of helping women and girls,

Soroptimist believes education is one of the key ways we empower women to improve their socio-economic status.  Techbridge supports our mission inspiring young women in underrepresented minorities to seek careers in science, technology, and engineering.  One of the new goals for Soroptimist is the creation of a mentoring program and Soroptimist honors Lyn for her efforts to be a role model for the girls and to provide them with support and resources.”

Winners of the award from each club are then considered for additional recognition at other levels of the Soroptimist organization.  Linda and Lyn have already been chosen as the regional winners of the award, which was celebrated at a dinner on April 1st.

Ultimately, the winner of the finalist award is selected by an online poll, and eligible to receive a $5,000 donation to a charitable organization of her choice.

Past award recipients have included: domestic violence expert and advocate Elaine Weiss; former U.S. Congresswomen Patsy Mink and Patricia Schroeder; novelist and former district attorney Linda Fairstein; Princess Diana; former child actor and U.S. Ambassador Shirley Temple Black; former Philippines President Corazon Aquino; and marine biologist Dr. Sylvia Earle.

All of us at Techbridge are extremely proud of Lyn and Linda for their tireless efforts to help girls by inspiring them through science, technology, and engineering.
