Mission: Inspiring girls* to recognize their potential and pursue opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
Founded: 1974 by a small group of female scientists and mathematicians
Names: Originally, the Math Science Network. In 1982, changed name to Expanding Your Horizons Network
Attendance: Approx. 24,000 girls per year
Distribution: 33 states and three countries including 10 years in Thailand

  • One day conferences for girls
  • Hands-on STEM activities
  • Engaging girls with female STEM role models
Known for:
  • Being girls’ gateway to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
  • Engaging female STEM role models in large scale, small group interactions with girls, especially those from traditionally underrepresented populations in STEM
  • Focus on the initial engagement to spark a girl’s imagination and transform her image of what is possible and who she can be to include STEM
