Role Models Matter Training

Role Models Matter is a one-hour, online, on-demand training that helps STEM professionals develop the skills to engage girls and gender-expansive youth from under-resourced communities in STEM as well as learn concrete strategies that promote STEM identity and STEM belonging.

We developed this training because role models play a vital role in getting youth excited about careers in STEM! It’s amazing to hear a girl say, “I want to be the next Dr. Mae Jemison. Or the next Shirley Jackson or Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett." By connecting with a role model, the aspirations of a young girl become real, concrete, and achievable.

The Role Models Matter project was originally funded by the National Science Foundation in 2012. Now, in 2021, we’ve evolved the work to go deeper into gender and racial equity, helping adults understand their biases, and sharing best practices to engage and encourage youth.

We are in the midst of our 2021-2022 school year planning. Please check back this fall for ways to get involved.
